Volunteers spend flight days at Midway helping us honor and thank our veterans. But each flight also requires more than 750 man-hours to bring together before we even get off the ground. We need help in many areas: pre-flight operations, fundraising, communications, airport logistics, administration and more. Honor Flight Chicago volunteer opportunities include:

        • Flight support at Midway in the morning and evening
        • Fundraising and special events
        • Office assistance (data entry, clerical work, etc.)
        • Work from home to support our mailings and/or make phone calls
        • Participating in our Locate a Hero campaign to reach veterans who have not yet flown with us

As an Honor Flight Chicago volunteer, you’ll work with a dedicated team to provide the best possible experience for our veterans. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please download a volunteer application:

Please submit the application following the instructions on the form.

Honor Flight guardians accompany our veterans on their trip to Washington, D.C. and are responsible for ensuring the comfort, enjoyment and safety of the veterans in their charge. Please note:

      • In order to have more seats available for veterans on the flights, seats for guardians are strictly limited.
      • So that we may serve as many veterans as possible, guardians must pay the entire cost of their participation in the day’s events.  Please note that the Guardian Fee has increased to $601 in 2017 due to the increased cost in charter airfare.

If you would like to be considered as a guardian, please download and complete the guardian application and mail or fax it to:

The volunteers of Honor Flight Chicago are what make our mission possible. With very few paid employees, almost everything that goes into the veteran’s day of honor is a direct result of the generous donation of the time and talents of our volunteers.  There are two ways to get involved: to be a volunteer or to be a guardian. Volunteers make the flights happen; guardians attend to the veterans while they are on the flight. If you would like to learn more about and become a volunteer click here:

NOTE:  In order to have more seats available for veterans on the flights, seats for guardians are strictly limited. To become familiar with our flight day operations, prospective guardians who are not accompanying a family member veteran for medical reasons must first serve as Honor Flight Chicago volunteers.
