Volunteers are needed to greet our Honor Flight Chicago flights at Dulles Airport!  We encourage people to bring their families and friends and to greet our flights of WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War Veterans.

Greeters attend the arrival and/or departure of the Veterans to provide a Hero’s Welcome at the main terminal of Dulles Airport. You will be able to shake their hands as you welcome them to DC, wish them safe travels back to Chicago, and most of all, thank them for their service to our country. A warm “Welcome Home!” is always greatly appreciated by our Vietnam Vets.

Greeters are needed from approximately 9:15am until 11:00am the morning of the flight and/or from 5:30pm until 6:30pm the evening of the flight.

The morning greetings take place outside of security on the second level of the Main Terminal.  Greeters will be lined up as the Veterans disembark the mobile lounges and make their way to the buses.  Feel free to stay and help wave off the buses curbside as the Veterans depart for their day.

The evening greetings take place on the lower level of the Main Terminal as the Veterans make their way from the buses to the security checkpoint. Coming to greet the Veterans after their day in DC can be as rewarding, if not MORE rewarding, than greeting them when they arrive. Please make sure you sign up for the departure greeting so you can get instructions about when to return to greet the veterans at the airport.

Reasonably sized banners, signs, and U.S. flags are allowed (remember, you will likely have to hold them while clapping). Political, religious, or corporate materials are strictly prohibited from distribution.

Free parking is provided in a designated lot if you register by the Monday before fight day, and you indicate on the registration form that you want a parking placard.

All registered greeters will receive an email notification the weekend prior to the flight date with detailed information on arrival time, free parking instructions, and meeting location.

You are still welcome to greet without registering, but you will have to pay up to $28 for parking.

For more information about bringing a group to greet, please contact us at dcgreeters@honorflightchicago.org.  If your group is arriving by bus, please let us know so we can provide offloading and parking information for buses.  Otherwise, the drivers of the group caravans can sign up, indicating the need for free parking information, and list the group name in the comment section of the signup form.  This way we know your group is coming and we can work with you to get a strategic place to greet.

If you are interested in providing musical entertainment at the departure, please email dcgreeters@honorflightchicago.org.  We cannot accept offers for musical entertainment at the arrival.
