LEADING TO INSPIRE OTHERS
One of the unique extracurricular opportunities available for students at River Valley School is the Rotary/Early Act Club, which inspires students to take on leadership roles that will impact others. The mission of EarlyAct™ is to promote goodwill, understanding and peace through the active participation of its student members so that with committed citizenship and effective leadership they may improve the quality of life of their school, local and global communities.
In 2018, students in the Rotary/Early Act Club decided to raise money for Honor Flight Chicago.
In the week leading up to Veteran’s Day, students:
- Decorated the school with posters that explained what Honor Flight Chicago is and the impact it has
- Created donation boxes to collect money at the school’s front office and Veteran’s Day assembly
- Challenged students to bring in change throughout the week that would be collected in their classrooms
In addition, members of the Rotary/Early Act Club made announcements to the entire school explaining the mission and impact of Honor Flight Chicago.
“After a week of collecting in our classrooms, we had over $1,300! The donation boxes at our annual assembly were also a big hit. In one night, we collected $986 from our parents, grandparents and friends!”
